For more than three decades, Mark Lewis has worn the badge with one purpose: to protect the people of Dorchester County and stand for what is right. A decorated law enforcement veteran, former Chief of Police for the City of Cambridge, and lifelong public servant, Mark’s career has been defined by integrity, accountability, and unwavering commitment to the community he calls home.

Mark began his service in uniform after serving in the U.S. Army Reserves, then joined local law enforcement and rose through the ranks the right way — through hard work, leadership, and results. From patrol officer to narcotics investigator, from detective and supervisor to Major, Deputy Chief, and ultimately Chief of Police, he has led from the front at every level. Over the course of his career, he led major criminal investigations, supervised complex operations, mentored generations of officers, and worked with federal and state partners to remove dangerous offenders from the streets. His work has contributed to thousands of arrests, successful investigations, and safer neighborhoods across the region.

A graduate of the prestigious FBI National Academy and recipient of numerous commendations and honors, Mark has earned recognition from citizens, fellow officers, and federal agencies alike. He has been trusted to oversee critical operations, manage departmental budgets and training, implement modern policing programs, and guide agencies through challenging times. Throughout it all, he remained grounded in one belief: strong law enforcement begins with strong community trust.

During his time as Chief of Police, Mark focused on building relationships between officers and residents, supporting first responders, improving accountability and professionalism, and ensuring that every neighborhood felt protected and heard. His leadership style has always been steady, fair, and hands-on, rooted in experience rather than politics.

Now retired as Chief but not retired from service, Mark Lewis is stepping forward once again, this time to serve as Dorchester County Sheriff. He brings with him more than 30 years of proven leadership, a deep understanding of modern law enforcement challenges, and a commitment to protecting every citizen with fairness, strength, and respect.
